Over the last two months, the posts on the CCYSC blog have explored different sites in which children and youth confront social, cultural, economic and political differences. We have also looked at sites where children enact various forms of politics. For September, we wish to hear from children and youth themselves. We invite contributions from children and youth in various forms such as stories, poems, art, lyrics/music, letters, etc. The theme for the month seeks to explore and understand moments when children and youth have felt compelled to speak up about issues that matter to them and the many forms and expressions in which they have spoken up. How have children resisted the many constraints on their speech and expressions? What concerns about their world have children and youth expressed in their writing, art, poetry and other expressions?
We invite you to help us in reaching out to children and youth. This could be young people you know of personally, those that you work with or conduct research with. Along with the entries, we request you to also provide some details such as the age, the location and the context in which the work was produced, so that we may better understand the motivations behind the artistic/literary/visual production. We hope that in the month of September, we can keep adult explanations and interpretations to a minimum, and let children and young people speak for themselves about the social, political, cultural, ecological contexts that they inhabit. Written contributions (up to 1500-2000 words) and visual contributions (with a maximum of 10 pictures, if in the format of comic strips / collages, etc that require multiple pictures) are welcome.
Please do submit your contributions before the fourth week of September. All material should be sent to childyouth2020@gmail.com.
We look forward to your contributions!
